Tyler Minks has spent the past six years teaching middle school history in the Hanover and Henrico school divisions. His classes center inquiry, discussion, primary sources, and thoughtful writing. Students learn to argue their own positions rather than just memorizing the past. In addition to classroom teaching, Tyler has served as a division curriculum writer and cross-curricular literacy leader, creating lessons and assessments that help students think critically across all disciplines. He holds a B.A. in History from VCU and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from UVA. Tyler says part of the job he values most is helping students navigate the complexities of the middle school years. Outside of school, he enjoys visiting local museums, supporting the local symphony orchestra, singing in a choir, and playing the piano.
