Admissions at Orchard House
Putting Together a Class
Members of the faculty and administration comprise the Admissions Committee. To build mission-appropriate classes of twenty students, we seek diversity in race, ethnicity, economics, geography, family make-up, and educational backgrounds. When the Admissions Committee makes its decisions many factors are taken into consideration. Not only does the committee take into careful consideration the individual, it also looks at the relationships among the individuals within a class- how each girl will contribute to a class and draw from it. Under consideration in the admissions process is introversion and extroversion, learning styles, organizational skills, overt and emerging leadership skills, academic performance, social skills, outside interests and talents, academic ability and promise. We are looking for girls that bring a wealth of experiences and backgrounds rather than looking to create a class of the top 10% of academic achievers. We believe that learning from, understanding, and respecting each other's styles, abilities, beliefs, and backgrounds coupled with strong academics creates a powerful education.
