Imagine a school where learning is a joy, where the curriculum is designed to prepare girls for an ever changing and increasingly global world, where the fine arts are valued equally with the sciences, where each girl is known by name and valued as an individual with unique talents and abilities. Imagine a school where girls take healthy risks and ease out of their comfort zones because they know they are emotionally and academically safe. Imagine a school where girls come to understand the difference between being the object of someone else’s life and being the subject of their own lives, where everyone views themselves and each other as complex beings, rather than seeing themselves and their peers in one dimension. Imagine a school very different in its understanding and approach to teaching middle school girls. Imagine a place where girls form a community rich with diverse learning styles and backgrounds, where they are encouraged to stretch their ideas of identity and allowed to become who they are, not just a product of the school. Nancy Davies imagined all this. From her dreams and musings and the commitment of the founding mothers, sprung such a place - Orchard House School. Welcome.

We invite you to come walk the halls of Orchard House, pop into a classroom, or just listen to the newest members of our community, the fifth graders conversing with their eighth graders. You will see and feel firsthand the school community Nancy Davies imagined and the faculty and staff crafted. You will discover a place that is happy, and energetic - a place of life, activity, and joy. Whether Orchard House girls are choreographing the last steps of their dance for Studio, creating Google sites for technology class, or wowing their geometry teacher with their final proofs, you will experience a place that is alive with engaged, active learners.  You will experience, as the girls have through their Leadership class on “Thinking Hats,” that Orchard House is a place that embraces different learning strengths and understands there are many routes to success.  An alumna, Melody Harrison, Class of 2006, summed up the experience best when she said “Anyone who has been inside her walls for at least 48 hours has been made a better person by Orchard House School.

Orchard House is a place that will allows your daughter to stretch her intellect, develop her confidence by building competencies, and claim her voice. We are proud of the community we have created here. It is our pleasure to welcome you to Orchard House School.
